Billy Bounce Safety Surface’s Rubber Mulch contains 100% recycled rubber shreds bonded with a polyurethane binder. The mixture is installed in situ by a chemical mixing, pouring, levelling, screeding and rolling process.

Under every Rubber Mulch surface is a geotextile membrane that prevents weeds from growing through the surface. It is a porous surface with excellent drainage properties, allowing year-round use. The surface has been tested and certified by BS EN 1176:2008.

Depth and Area Sizes

We calculate the depth of the Wet Pour following the Critical Fall Height (CFH) of any fixed play equipment. CFH is the height from which a surface will absorb the impact of a child’s fall to reduce the risk of serious head injury. We’re happy to advise the CFH of any existing or planned play equipment.

The height of any potential fall dictates the extent of safety surfacing around the play equipment. Establishing the area size that needs soft surfacing differs for stationary equipment and swings. Our guide provides in-depth details on establishing depths and area sizes for play equipment.

Sub-base requirements for Rubber Mulch

We lay Wet Pour safety surfaces onto a variety of sub-bases. The most common being Type 1 MOT stone, Tarmac or concrete. We can lay the surface onto other sub-bases, but please contact us to discuss.

Accreditations & Standards

BS EN 7188:1998 tests safety surfacing to different criteria such as the determination of slip resistance, indentation resistance, durability, ease of ignition, tensile strength and elongation at break.

BS EN 1177:2018 tests impact attenuating surfacing for the determination of Critical Fall Heights
